The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon has sent its sincerest condolences and a message of support to the people of Boston following the bomb attack on the 2013 Boston Marathon.
The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon – ironically also won in January this year by 2013 Boston Marathon champion Lelisa Desisa – is ranked among the top events of its kind in the world and Event Director Peter Connerton was quick to send a personal message to his American counterparts.
“We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the events that unfolded in Boston on Monday,” said Connerton. “The marathon community is a close one and our thoughts go to the victims and their families. This is a sad time for athletics and the world of marathon running.”
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai and under the aegis of the Dubai Sports Council, the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon is, like Boston, an IAAF Gold Label marathon and ranked among the world’s best running events.
“The world’s leading marathons have a great deal in common and Dubai Marathon officials always receive a warm welcome when we visit our Boston counterparts,” added Connerton. “Our thoughts go to everyone involved with the world’s oldest continuous marathon and we send our best wishes to those injured in the blasts.”
