Defending champions David Barmasai and Asselefech Medessa will return to the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon next month and like the many of the elite field they will have one thing on their minds – Olympic qualification.

Just days after receiving Gold Label status from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon has unveiled a new route that will take the world’s richest long distance running race back into the heart of the city.

Dubai (UAE): The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon, the world’s richest long distance running event, has joined the athletics elite following the announcement that it has received Gold Label status from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
